“We're bringing in a comedy troupe” is a sentence that makes serious people nervous, and it should. Most of what gets sold as improv training is a bag of party games with a corporate label on it.

Improvisational theater has spent eighty years solving one specific problem: how do you get a group of people to perform well together, under pressure, with no plan, in front of an audience, without anybody freezing or grandstanding or quietly checking out?
